It's been more than a year since I've posted here. Current events evoked either stunned silence or diatribe. Instead, I've been working on a book, on fiction, on a series of personal essays, and on finding work. I've taken classes - programming, technical editing - while waiting and hoping for the tech job market to recover. I haven't tried Prozac yet, although that seems to be a strategy recommended by Bush & Company, according to this report. July 29, 2004: WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A campaign worker for President Bush said on Thursday American workers unhappy with low-quality jobs should find new ones -- or pop a Prozac to make themselves feel better. "Why don't they get new jobs if they're unhappy -- or go on Prozac?" said Susan Sheybani, an assistant to Bush campaign spokesman Terry Holt. An off-the-wall comment. "Oh, I was just kidding" Sheybani explained when told her words had been heard by a reporter. But it's hard to see the humor when your last good job was one of the 1.1 million jobs lost since Bush took office in January 2001.
